How to Use Hotspot with a Travel eSIM
The good news for travelers is that the Hotspot option is generally available with PrimaSim travel eSIMs, just like with your home SIM card. We do not impose any restrictions on internet sharing. This means you can share your internet with your travel companions or connect your laptop or tablet—which is especially important for remote work.
Are There Any Nuances?
Yes, and we’ll cover them here, along with step-by-step instructions on enabling hotspot mode with a travel SIM.
How to Share the Internet Using a Travel eSIM
On iPhone
- Go to Mobile Data and make sure your new eSIM is active. If it’s listed first, it will be used for internet sharing.
- Open Personal Hotspot.
- Turn on Allow Others to Join.
On Samsung, Huawei, and Other Android Devices
- Go to Network & Internet, then select SIMs.
- Check which SIM is currently used for Mobile Data. If it’s the eSIM, continue.
- Open Hotspot & Tethering or Mobile Hotspot and Tethering, then tap Mobile Hotspot.
- Enable the Mobile Hotspot option.
What You Need to Know About Hotspot with eSIM
- Your smartphone must support the sharing feature. On iPhone, go to Mobile Data and look for Personal Hotspot. On Android, open Network & Internet > Mobile Hotspot & Tethering.
- Your device must support eSIM. You can find out how to check this on our website.
- At PrimaSim, we do not restrict internet sharing, but some operators may set limits (e.g., a daily data cap) or disable hotspot altogether. Look for phrases like Hotspot not supported or Tethering limited to 1 GB per day in plan descriptions.
- If you use a home SIM alongside a travel eSIM, you need to manually select which one to use for the hotspot.
